Having ‘checked in’ at various Sports and Social Media conferences in a few cities over the last year (and eyeing the calendar for the next cool place to drop in and talk shop) we thought, ‘Hold the phone (plane) – why aren’t we getting together with people here?”
The answer to that of course is somebody’s gotta get that ball rolling. So we’re on it.

Vancouver has grown up a lot in the sports space in a relatively short period of time… in 2002 the landscape was decidedly less rich in terms of passion team followings and season ticketholders than is the case today. But Vancouver has absolutely always been progressive on the digital interaction front – remember when we used to call it ‘new media’ – seems really quaint today.
Fortunately these two worlds go very nicely together (especially for us Vancouverites with our dual tech & sports heritage).
What’s better than when you bring together the people who create, use, test, question and recreate new ways to do things: entertain, sell tickets, create games, host and generally get the town buzzing about gadgets, players, anything.

Topics making the round these days: cool in & around venue apps (FanCam, CrowdWave) that entice people to want to ‘be there’ & then share, sponsor value-adds that don’t diminish authenticity and of course the ever popular time management & metrics.

Come share what’s on your mind – with people who understand the language you’re speaking.

So let’s do this thing. #YVRSportsBiz

Let’s grab a beer, share some opinions, spark some new thoughts, meet some tweeps and generally CONNECT at (as far as we know) Vancouver’s inaugural sports peeps tweetup.

We’ve made a list (but haven’t checked it twice) of the city’s sports social media folks to come out of their Hootsuites and grab a brew together and interact with people who are so much more than a 48 x 48 pxl avatar.
